Gin Fizz
The classic Gin Fizz is the best-known cocktail in the fizz family, a mixed drink variation on the older sours family of cocktails. Their defining feature is an acidic juice (in this case, lemon) and carbonated water. The Gin Fizz appears first in Jerry Thomas’s classic The Bar-Tender’s Guide from 1887.
According to the International Bartenders Association, the ingredients for a single serving of Gin Fizz are:
45 ml gin
30 ml fresh lemon juice
10 ml simple syrup
Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into a tall glass, top with soda water, stir, and garnish with a lemon slice.
